Boomers Burgers and Ribs
Four out of six piggies on 2008 through Jun, 2009.
Overall Impression...
Good, but needs improvement.
Meats...
The pork ribs are tender, smoky, and delicious. The beef ribs, however, are tough and not very flavorful. The thin strips of brisket are smokey and tasty, but a little chewy. With the addition of a little sauce, I still cleaned my plate. The pulled pork (actually chopped) was smoky, juicy, and yummy. The aptly named hot links are very spicy, and go especially well with mustard. The burgers are one third pound, juicy masterpieces. Boomers also offers an assortment of wings, catfish, meat salads, and chicken. The wings come in a shiny metal bucket that many customers want to keep.
Sides...
The usual sides are available, plus Texas toast, roasted corn, beer battered onion rings, a cup of chili, and side salad. The delicious potato salad has a base of both mayo and mustard, and an ample amount of pepper. The cole slaw is heavily flavored with celery seed which, in my opinion, spoils the flavor. The baked (not BBQ) beans are sweet and flavorful, accented by a generous splash of bourbon. Yum. Shoe string-style french fries are very crispy and a delight.
Sauces...
Boomers has two sauces, which are appropriately, always served on the side. The mild sweet sauce is lightly flavored with bourbon, and slightly spicy. The hot sauce has a generous amount of heat, but is otherwise bland.
Portions...
Ample.
Service...
Friendly and helpful. One of our orders came with the wrong side, but that was corrected promptly.
Cost...
Reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. Burgers and sandwiches range from $7 to $9. Platters, called "Samplers", come with Texas toast, cole slaw, and one other side of your choice. One meat is $11, two is $14, three is $17, and four is $20.
Atmosphere...
Casual, with comfortable padded seats and booths. The pleasant color scheme puts your eyes at ease, and the glass front lets in a lot of light. The tables are covered with butcher paper, so don't worry about letting the sauce fly.
Pros...
Tasty, with an expansive menu to keep you coming back for more.
Cons...
Some of the dishes need improvement.
