Four out of six piggies on 2008 through Aug, 2009.
Overall Impression...
Smoky!
Meats...
Both the brisket and smoked pork loin were a bit dry, but cut paper thin so still tender and flavorful. So far, my favorite meat is the spare ribs. They're tender, juicy, and delicious. The beef ribs were chewy and not that flavorful. Usually turkey is a bit dry, but at Campbell's, it's tender, succulent, and delicious.
Sides...
The sides are generously portioned, about 1.5 cups each. The potato salad has both mayo and mustard. It's a creamy, tangy delight. The black eyed peas are a little bit bland, but that's easily solved with a little hot sauce. Try the greens--the fresh sauteed and braised collard greens are perfectly cooked, savory, earthy, and delicious. I wasn't impressed by the sweet baked beans. They have an odd sweet spice that is unappetizing. Mac & Cheese and candied yams are also available, but not yet on the menu. The platters come with either a roll or corn bread muffin, both very good, and honey is on the table.
Sauces...
A complete sauce lineup, with mild, medium, hot, and smokey brown sugar. The medium is a tasty sweet and smoky sauce without much acid or spice and the hot sauce is nicely spicy, slightly sweet, but without much acid. The smokey brown sugar sauce is, to me, sickeningly sweet. A weak peppered vinegar is on the table for salads, but can double as an adjustment for the sauces. Bottled hot sauce is also on the table if you just have to have more heat.
Portions...
The sides are generously portioned, and the meats are moderate to large portions. Together, you will be more than satisfied.
Service...
Friendly, courteous, and attentive. Please tip generously.
Cost...
Moderate.
Atmosphere...
Cozy, kitchy, and comfortable. Outdoor seating is available.
Pros...
Nice atmosphere, tasty meats and sides, good service, and entertainment.
Cons...
The brisket and smoked pork loin are a bit dry.
