Hog Wild BBQ

Four out of six piggies on Jan, 2009.

Overall Impression...
Spicy!

Meats...
The brisket is the most tender and succulent I've had anywhere in Portland. You don't even need a knife. The pulled pork is very finely shredded and also very tender. It's actually too tender and a bit on the mushy side. Also available is smoked turkey, German sausages, hot links, chicken, and beef ribs. There was so much hot sauce on the meat that I couldn't accurately gauge the flavor. When ordering, remember to specify the amount of sauce, if any.

Sides...
The potato salad is a nice blend in a creamy mayo base. The coleslaw is a finely shredded, crunchy and flavorful blend in a mayo base with a hint of caraway. Unlike most, it is not soupy. Also on the menu is BBQ beans and green beans with bacon. The plates come with a white dinner roll.

Sauces...
I've only tried the hot sauce so far. It's quite a blast, and pepper hounds will not be disappointed. Hog Wild's sweet variety is called Cranberry BBQ sauce, and the medium is called Hog Wild sauce.

Portions...
Humongous. Arrive very hungry.

Service...
The owner/manager is a nice guy and service is prompt and cheerful.

Cost...
Inexpensive, especially considering the large portions. Sandwiches are around $6. Plates range from $8 to $12 and include two sides and a dinner roll. Sides are $1.25.

Atmosphere...
It's a food cart in a busy shopping center. In good weather, outdoor seating is available.

Pros...
Tasty BBQ at an affordable price.

Cons...
Not sure yet. I'm still tasting.
