Smokin' Jim's Bar-B-Que

Three out of six piggies on April-May, 2009.

Overall Impression...
Bland. I really wanted to like Smokin' Jim's BBQ, but it's just not that great. I'll try one more time.

Meats...
The pork ribs are big, meaty, and delicious, but without much spice or smoke flavor. They are served with only the dry rub used for cooking. The pulled pork is completely bland. If you're lucky enough to get a nice fatty piece, that helps the flavor.

Sides...
I didn't really care for the finely shredded cole slaw because of the excess celery seed. The beans were basically good but needed some seasonings. The mild, mustard-based potato salad is a creamy blend with black olives and relish. It sounds better than it is.

Sauces...
There is one bland tomato-based sauce. It's almost indistinguishable from tomato sauce out of a can. In fact, it has even less flavor than canned tomato sauce.

Portions...
Generous portions. The rib platter is five large ribs and is enough for two.

Service...
Friendly.

Cost...
Affordable.

Atmosphere...
It's a food cart with smoker in a parking lot, so the atmosphere is whatever you make of it. In good weather, tree shaded outdoor seating is available.

Pros...
Good pork ribs.

Cons...
Bland sauce and sides, bland pulled pork. Haven't tried the chicken or brisket yet.
